The Michigan State Police from the Sault Ste Marie Post were dispatched to Devil’s Hallow Lake Trail and County Rd 371 in Luce County for a single vehicle snowmobile crash on Wednesday, February 8, at about 9:00 pm.
Upon investigation by Troopers, it was learned that a snowmobile driven by 49-year-old Robert Huffmaster from Valparaiso, Indiana, had run off the trail and struck a tree. Mr. Huffmaster was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was alone on the snowmobile which was a 2016 Ski-Doo.
“Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash,” said Lt. Mark Giannunzio. “Right now this accident remains under investigation.”
