LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Lake Superior State men’s and women’s golf programs placed 19th and 17th, respectively, at the Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) Spring Invitational over the weekend.
Men
The men’s team was led by Marko Banic who paced the Lakers with a top-ten finish individually (T9), shooting two over par after two rounds, including an even-par performance on the second day of the event. Alex Bratton finished the two-day tournament with an overall score of nine over par while Callum McKay totalled 155 strokes in two days after improving by nine shots on the second round. Meanwhile, Gabe Rathburn and Grant Baker rounded out the lineup with respective two-day totals of 164 and 170.
Women
Marie Mathieu led the way for the Lakers on the women’s side after a five-stroke improvement on the second day of competition, and Jessica Hellebuyck used a birdie on hole one for a two-day total of 178. Meanwhile, Julia Vess capped off a five-stroke improvement of her own on the second round for a total of 179, placing right behind her teammate.
