Two Persons Die from Drug Overdose

ALPENA COUNTY, MI. On Saturday, March 18, 2023, at approximately 7:30 a.m. Michigan State Police troopers found two adult males who had died from an apparent drug overdose.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Alpena Post responded to a report of two persons who were unresponsive at a residence on US-23 South in Alpena Township. Upon arrival, it was determined two males were deceased from what appeared to be a drug overdose. The men, a 35-year-old and 31-year-old, were both from Alpena.

Autopsies are scheduled for today to determine the cause of the deaths. The investigation continues.

In Chippewa County, back in late February three men were arrested on a plethora of felony drug charges leading Sheriff Mike Bitnar to issue a statement to the public.

“TRIDENT, Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, and Sault Ste Marie PD would like to warn the public that we continue to see Cocaine, Heroin and Methamphetamine laced with fentanyl in our area,” the Sheriff stated. “TRIDENT also has information that there are counterfeit oxycodone tablets in the Chippewa County area. These tablets are blue in color and marked with “M-30”. These tablets also contain fentanyl.”

“Fentanyl continues to be a great danger to those using illegal narcotics, all first responders and anyone that may accidentally encounter it,” the Sheriff emphasized.
