ROSCOMMON COUNTY, MI. On the evening of May 28, 2022, troopers from the Michigan State Police
(MSP) Houghton Lake Post were dispatched to a residence on Houghton Heights Manor in Roscommon
Township for an unresponsive 47-year-old man who was being given CPR by his fiancée. The fiancée
arrived at the residence to find the man unresponsive on the bed. He had a syringe stuck in his arm. His
fiancée removed the syringe, called 911, and began CPR. Troopers arrived and attempted to revive the
man using Narcan and continued CPR. Houghton Lake EMS arrived and took over lifesaving efforts.
The man was transported by ambulance to Grayling Munson Hospital where he was pronounced
deceased. An autopsy revealed the cause of death was acute fentanyl intoxication.
A lengthy investigation followed. Witnesses were interviewed, cellular phones seized, and search
warrants executed. A suspect was developed, and an arrest warrant was issued for 27-year-old Chase
Arthur Rosenthal from Houghton Lake on April 6, 2023. Rosenthal was informed of his charges while
incarcerated in the Roscommon County Jail on April 13, 2023.
Rosenthal was arraigned on April 14, 2023, in the 82nd District Court in Roscommon County for one count Delivery of Controlled Substance Causing Death, and one count Delivery of Controlled Substance less than 50 grams. He was given a $500,000 10% cash surety bond. His next scheduled court appearance
is on April 21, 2023, at 1:00 p.m.
