“As if to prove that the recent win in the 18 team field of the Ram Scram was no fluke, the boys took first place honors in the Inland Lake Invitational. We haven’t won that meet since 2008, we took runner up at States that year, so it was a huge win,” said Boys Coach Jim Martin. With last week’s Bulldog Invite being rescheduled due to weather, the Blue Devils headed back across the bridge to Inland Lakes, to compete against athletes from Brimley, Central Lake, Cheboygan, North Trail, Pellston, St. Ignace and Wolverine.
The Blue Devil Boys team took first place, earning 163 points. Ryver Ryckeghem (11.51) took second in the 100m, with Carter Oshelski (11.54) right behind him. Ryckeghem also placed second in the 200m (24.00) and Logan Haskins took fourth in the 400m (57.21 – PR). Cody Aldridge won both the 800m (2:08.72 – PR) and 1600m (4:41.86). Gabe Litzner set a new school record in the 3200m (9.48 – PR).
Coach Jim Martin spoke highly of the runner, “The old record was held by Chad Waucash who ran a 9:49.3 in 1994. Couldn’t happen to a more deserving young man.”
Owen Rice placed second in the 300m hurdles (47.32). The boys placed in all relay events. In the 4×100, Alex Jacek, River Perez, Billy Menard and Ryckeghem placed second (47.45), and Jacek, Perez, Ryckeghem and Oshelski won the 4×200 (1:36.88). In the 4×400, Haydn Jones, Logan Haskins, Truman Maher and Perez took fourth (4:03.53) and Jones, Joey Kasprzak, Haskins and Litzner won the 4×800 (9:25.49). Evan Arbic had another good day of throwing, placing fourth in shot put (36’05 – PR) and winning in discus (109’02). In high jump, Nate Koepp took second (5’06”) and Talon Thomas-Holm took third (5’06).
The Girls team earned 156 points, tying for first with the host school. Bella Smith took fourth in the 100m (14.18) and second in the 200m (29.69). There were three that placed in the 400m, with Tarynn Pratt coming in second (1:06.63), Dayna Szabo taking third (1:09.06), and Ava Mayer taking fourth (1:11.97). Isabella DeWildt won the 800m (2:39.77) and Ella Marchand came in third (2:53.39).
