Blue Devils Perform at Blue Devil Classic

Nineteen teams from all over central and northern Michigan, the EUP and Sault Canada met in Gaylord on a cold, damp Friday afternoon to compete in the Blue Devil Classic. The Sault High Blue Devils Boys and Girls track teams both placed second in the classic, continuing their streak of successful meets this season. Girls Head Coach Scott Menard was pleased with the teams’ success down in Gaylord. “Even though the weather wasn’t ideal, we had a number of PR’s and great performances from both the boys and girls teams.”

Carter Oshelski placed second in both the 100m (11.62) and 200m (23.26 – PR) events. Gabe Litzner placed third in the 800m (2:08.51 – PR) and won the 1600m (4:36.36). Cody Aldridge won the 3200m run (10:15.30) while teammate Daniel Bowerman came in eighth (11:57.20 – PR). Owen Rice improved his time in the 300m hurdles, taking seventh (45:58 – PR). The Sault boys placed in the top eight in all of the relays, contributing to their overall success on the day. In the 4×100 relay, runners Alex Jacek, Billy Menard, Sebastian Salcedo Arroyo, and River Perez finished seventh with a time of 49.52. In the 4×200 relay, Jacek, Donnivan Dykraaf, Perez and Oshelski came in third with a time of 1:38.84. Jacek, Haydn Jones, Dykraaf and Logan Haskins took fifth in the 4×400 relay with a time of 3:52.28. Jones, Caleb Klier, Haskins and Aldridge were runners up in the 4×800 relay with a time of 9:03.93. The Blue Devils fared well in the field events, with Evan Arbic placing sixth in both the Shot Put (37’03.75 -PR) and Discus (98’01.00). Nate Koepp took third in the High Jump (5’08 – PR) while Rayce Rizzo was runner up in the Pole Vault (11’06) and Wyatt Peabody came in sixth (8’00 – PR). 

Mackenzie Bell placed eighth in the 100m (14.00) and Tarynn Pratt and Dayna Szabo finished fourth (1:06.01 – PR) and fifth (1:06.22 – PR) in the 400m. Cassandra Gallagher came in fifth in the 1600m (5:55.87) and second in the 3200m (12:49.77) run, while teammate Calla Armstrong came in eighth (14:21.26). Annabelle Fazzari took third in the 100m hurdles (18.03) and Claire Erickson took fourth (18.42). Erickson took third in the 300m hurdles (51.73) and Jillian Newhouse came in seventh (56.30 – PR). The girls also fared well in the four relay events. Pratt, Bell, Isabella DeWildt, and Bella Smith took fourth in the 4×100 with a time of 54.08, while Bell, Erickson, Pratt and Smith were runners up in the 4×200 with a time of 1:55.99. DeWildt, Szabo, Pratt, and Erickson took third in the 4×400 with a time of 4:30.59, and Gallagher, Szabo, Abigail Walther and DeWildt finished third in the 4×800 with a time of 11:00.30. In the field events, Annabelle Fazzari took fourth (30’05.25) in Shot Put, while teammates Katie Anderson took fifth (30’02) and Ava Donmyer came in seventh (29’11). The same three throwers placed in discus as well, with Fazzari taking third (90’01 – PR), Anderson taking fourth (87’06), and Donmyer taking eighth (84’04). DeWildt placed fourth in the Pole Vault (6’06). 

Monday both teams will head to Cheboygan to compete in the Cheboygan Invitational.
