SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Abbie Laajala has been promoted to Associate Athletic Director after spending the previous two years serving as the Assistant Athletic Director of External Relations as well as the Senior Woman Administrator in the Lake Superior State (LSSU) Athletic Department, as announced by LSSU Athletic Director, Dr. Dave Diles, on Monday.
“I am honored to have the opportunity with this promotion to continue to grow in my role in the LSSU Athletic Department under the guidance and direction of Dr. Diles,” said Laajala.
Prior to her time as Assistant Athletic Director, Laajala had worked at LSSU since August 2016 where she began as the Marketing and Membership Services Coordinator of the Norris Events Center. In that role, she has managed all service areas of the Norris Center, developed all marketing materials for the Norris Center and University Recreation, created programming for all of LSSU’s University Recreation program, and supervised a staff of over thirty student-workers.
She has also operated the LSSU hockey social media accounts on a volunteer basis since May 2016, and she was able to increase the following on all main channels. Additionally, she has also been a committee member for Pink in the Rink/Check.Slash.Survive as well as being involved in numerous community outreach events.
“I am grateful for the support and confidence that Dr. Diles has given me in my two years with the department, and I look forward to continuing to learn and promote our great programs while creating long-lasting relationships within the community,” said Laajala.
