The Sault High Poms recently attended a camp on the campus of Central Michigan University and earned a number of awards and invites to future events. The team earned 1st place for each nightly rating, where they performed routines they had just learned each morning. They also earned 1st place in both the hip hop routine and game day routine. The squad earned 2nd place in both the overall open routine, and overall small varsity, which included teams with up to 16 members. The team also received an invite to the Midwest Grand Championships in Chicago, IL.
There were also several individual awards and invites for a number of team members. Senior Co-Captains Abby Walther and Fairyn Novak and Sophomore Liliana Gallegos all auditioned for and earned invites to the Hollywood Dance Tour and New York Dance Tour. Abby and Fairyn were both selected as summer camp all stars, which earned them an invitation to Badgerette All Star Talent Tour at Disney World. Fairyn also had the opportunity to perform as the team’s solo icon. Freshman Ivy York earned 1st place in the Pom Down.
Other talented athletes that round out this year’s team include Senior Calla Armstrong, Junior Fin Schneider, Sophomores Hannah Brindley, Taylor Meilstrup, Kristalyn Bontrager, Freshmen Brinna Metrish, Hayden Pace, Macy Collia and Ava Dale.
This school year, you will find the Poms performing at home football games, home boys and girls varsity basketball games, and school assemblies. The team also participates in and assists with the Hospice fundraisers Dancing With the Stars and Madrigal Dinner. They also marched in the Fourth of July parade. These young ladies have been working hard all summer, practicing from 7-10am four days a week to earn all of these awards. Coaches Deb Gardner and Jordan Harris could not be more proud of their amazing accomplishments.
