The Sault High Blue Devils JV Football team hosted a Big North Conference competitor, Marquette on Thursday. The Blue Devils remained scoreless in the first half, but got on the board in the third quarter with a touchdown run by freshman Sam Kiekhaefer. The two point conversion attempt was no good. Freshman Nick Causley recovered a Marquette fumble in the fourth quarter, and the Blue Devils capitalized on that possession a few downs later with a second touchdown run by Kiekhaefer. The two point conversion pass attempt was not successful. Kiekhaefer scampered across the goal line one last time before the clock ran out, and the final score was 48-18.
The Blue Devils JV coaches continue to work with the players on where they need to improve each week. Coach Hallai noted, “Mistakes were just costly. Simple as that. All it takes is one guy not doing their job and Marquette somehow exposed that every time. We have some key injured/sick players returning next week and hope we can move past this one and focus on next week at Glen Lake.”
The Blue Devils (1-4) are on the road next Thursday to take on the Maple City Glen Lake Lakers.
