The Sault High JV Blue Devils football team had their first game on the road, visiting the Escanaba Eskymos in another Big North Conference game. Escanaba scored in the first minutes of the game, and kept their momentum going. It was 48-0 at the half, and 61-0 at the end of the game. The Blue Devils struggled to move the ball down the field against a solid Eskymos defensive line. The Blue Devils defense could not keep up with Escanaba’s strong passing and running game.
Coach Arnie Hallai reflected on the game. “I’ve been trying to think of something after a night like that. We had a great week of practice and then it’s like we forgot everything. Effort and attitude were a big factor in the loss. Enough to where our team captains took it upon themselves to have a team meeting after the game without us coaches. I think as bad of an experience as it was to lose like that, us coaches hope it was a wake up call for some players that we need to be more focused in practices to be better prepared for games. Game’s over, it’s a new week, moving on to Marquette.”
The JV Blue Devils (1-3) will host Marquette this Thursday, in another Big North Conference game.
