On 9/6/23 at approximately 3:15am, a suspect driving a silver-colored Honda CRV entered the driveway of the Sault Ste. Marie Post. The male suspect parked his vehicle and exited wearing camouflage. He doused several patrol vehicles with gasoline and set them on fire. After setting them on fire, he produced a rifle from the vehicle and proceeded to fire multiple rounds into and around the patrol vehicles. After an extensive investigation and multiple tips, a suspect location was found on Riverside Road in Chippewa County.
On 9/7/23 at approximately 1:45pm, a search warrant was executed by the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team. During the execution of the search warrant, the suspect, a 39-yr-old male from Florida, fired gunshots towards troopers at which time troopers returned fire. The suspect was injured and has been taken by ambulance to My Michigan Medical Center where he is being treated for his injuries. He remains in custody at this time. No officers were injured.
The investigation is active and maximum charges are being sought.
