Eagles put an end to Beavers long winning streak

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI – The Soo Eagles ended the Blind River Beavers impressive 17-game winning streak thanks to a convincing 5-1 home win over the visiting Beavers on Saturday night at the Pullar Stadium.

The Eagles got on the board early as Michael Starzomski notched his first of the campaign at 1:46 as he ripped a high shot that eluded Beavers goalie Gavin Disano.

The Eagles increased their lead on the power play as a puck popped over to a wide open Landon Stevens who put home his 6th of the season with a helper from Zach Sweitzer at 16:29.

A good forecheck by the Eagles led to another late first period goal as Jack Paweski created a turnover near the Beavers blueline, then fed to Landon Stevens who slipped it over to Nolan Hendry who beat Disano which made it 3-0 at 18:38.

The Beavers finally got on the board in the middle frame as Jacob Kovacs scored his 26th on a power play at 10:23 of the second.

The Eagles did not take long to regain the three-goal lead as Alex Freund notched his 10th just over 30 seconds after the Beavers power play marker to make it 4-1.

Zach Sweitzer added an empty netter with just under 3 minutes left to seal the victory for the hometown Eagles, who have now won three straight.

The Beavers will be looking to start another win streak on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they take on the Soo Thunderbirds.
