MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women’s basketball team (1-12, 0-4 GLIAC) fell on the road to the Northern Michigan (NMU) Wildcats (10-4, 4-1 GLIAC) by a final score of 76-49 on Thursday.
Brittany Bowman (Kingsley, Mich.) got the Lakers on the board first, and Iara Navarro (Parana, Entre Rios, Argentina) pushed LSSU’s lead to four. The Wildcats were able to take the lead, but a pair of buckets from Gracey Metz (Hartland, Mich.) propelled the Lakers to a 6-0 run to go back in front. Both teams would battle for the remainder of the opening quarter with the Lakers ahead 14-13. They continued to go back and forth, but NMU was able to pull ahead to take a lead into the halftime break.
The Lakers would fight back in the second half with a three from Amanda Roach (Hartland, Mich.) helped her team to a 6-0 run to close the gap, but the Wildcats were ultimately able to hold on for the victory.
The Lakers return to action on Saturday, Jan. 13 when they face the Michigan Tech Huskies with tipoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
