HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women’s basketball team (1-13, 0-5 GLIAC) fell on the road to the Michigan Tech Huskies (7-7, 3-3 GLIAC) by a final score of 75-58 on Saturday.
CeCe Hacker (Omaha, Neb.) got the Lakers on the board first with an early shot from beyond the arc, but despite buckets from Gracey Metz (Hartland, Mich.) and Jaden Wilder (Manton, Mich.), the Huskies held onto the lead after the first ten minutes of action. The Lakers fought back in the second with another three from Hacker as well as Grace Bradford (Maple City, Mich.) getting to the free throw line on back-to-back possessions, but Michigan Tech stayed in front going into the halftime break.
The Lakers opened up the second half with back-to-back baskets down low from Iara Navarro (Parana, Entre Rios, Argentina) and Bradford, and they ended the third with a 6-0 run that featured four points from Breah Golden (Arcadia, Wis.) to close the gap going into the fourth. However, despite a strong and-one opportunity from Hacker, the Huskies were able to close out the game at the free throw line.
Despite the loss, Bradford led the way offensively with 16 points while also grabbing 10 rebounds for the double-double. Meanwhile, Hacker also finished the day in double-figures with 13 points of her own.
The Lakers return to action when they face Grand Valley on Thursday, Jan. 18 with tipoff scheduled for 5:30 p.m
