SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Anthony Zolezzi turned aside every shot he faced to backstop the Soo Eagles to an important 3-0 shutout win over the Blind River Beavers Saturday night in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at Pullar Stadium.
The Eagles opened the scoring on a late first period power play as Gabriel Fisher potted his 11th at 19:11, in beating Beavers’ netminder Gavin Disano.
Midway through the second Fisher netted his second of the night at 9:32 to put the hosts up by a pair.
Darby McCarthy ended the low-scoring affair with an unassisted tally for the Eagles in the late going to secure the home-ice victory.
The win moved the Eagles two points ahead of the Espanola Paper Kings for the fourth and final playoff spot in the NOJHL West.
Those two teams clash in Espanola in a 2 p.m. matinee Sunday afternoon at the Regional Recreation Complex and on FLOHockey.tv.
