The Sault High Blue Devils track and field teams sent full boys and girls squads to compete in St Ignace against the Saints, Cheboygan Chiefs, Manistique Emeralds and Petoskey St Michael Guardians. Both teams earned the most points by the end of the meet, with the boys earning 85.5 and the girls bringing home 97. A number of athletes set personal records (PR) during the meet.
In the 100m dash, Donnivan Dygraaf (11.9) placed third, and Bella Smith (13.7) won the event for the girls with Ahnaka Oshelski (13.8) right behind her and Natalie Prestien (14.2) taking fourth. Johnny Osborn (31.9) won the 100m adaptive race. In the 200m dash, Dean Roe (24.5) placed fourth and Caleb Klier (25.1) came in fifth. Smith (28.2) won the event for the girls, and Osborn (1:04.9) won the adaptive 200m race. Dayna Szabo (1:04.20) won the 400m dash for the girls, and Osborn (2:10.20) won the adaptive 400m race. In the 800m run, Evan Huyck (2:13.80 – PR) won the boys event, while Abby Walther (2:38) was runner up for the girls and Stephanie Jones (2:48 – PR) came in fifth. Eli Hills (5:09 – PR) was runner up in the boys 1600m run, with Daniel Bowerman (5:26 – PR) in fourth, and Chase Aldridge (5:27 – PR) right behind him in fifth. Walther (5:56) won the girls event, and Elise Proulx (6:12) came in third. Shea Armstrong (10:42 – PR) won the boys 3200m run, and Easton Hills (12:14 – PR) placed fourth. Calla Armstrong (14:37) placed third in the event for her team.
In the 110m high hurdles, Isaac Niebuhr 17.6 – PR) was runner up, with Owen Rice (18.0 – PR) in fourth. Oshelski (17.2 – PR) won the girls 100m high hurdles. Rice (44.8) was runner up in the 300m low hurdles, and Niebuhr (47.1 – PR) came in third. Oshelski (51.3 – PR) won the girls event and Natalie Heyrman (59.3 – PR) took fifth.
Both teams won the 4×100 relay races. Roe, Klier, Jaden Rishmawi, and Ryver Ryckeghem finished in 47.0. Talyah Pace, Grace Mayer, Isabella DeWildt and Smith finished in 54.8. It was the Blue Devils again for the 4×200 relays. Roe, Rayce Rizzo, Max VanDoren and Ryckeghem won in 1:37. Prestien, Mayer, Oshelski and Smith won in 1:53.8. In the 4×400, the boys took third. Ryckeghem, Rishmawi, VanDoren and Rice finished in 3:54.1. The girls team of Szabo, Mayer, Heyrman and Taryn Pratt were runners up with a time of 4:30. The relay team of Armstrong, Adam Brandt, AJ Gerrish and Klier finished third in the 4×800 with a time of 9:34. DeWildt, Szabo, Walther and Pratt won their event in 10:51.
The Blue Devils had a number of top five finishes in the various field events. In shot put, Evan Arbic (43’4) won the event and Brady Ditmyer (40’4) was third. Katie Anderson (32’9) was runner up for the girls, and Thelma Osumili (27’11 – PR) was fifth. Osborn (16’5 – PR) won the adaptive shot put event. In discus, Arbic (118’1) took third, and Ditmyer (96’10 – PR) was fifth. Anderson (102’3 – PR) was runner up for the girls. Talon Thomas-Holm (5’8) won the high jump, and Niebuhr (5’2) placed fourth. Rizzo (11’0) placed second in the pole vault, and Wyatt Peabody (8’6) took fourth. In long jump, Dykraaf (17’4 – PR) placed fourth, and Niebuhr (16’9) was fifth. For the girls, Jolene Elkins (13’3) was runner up, and Maddie McLean (13’0) was third.
The St Ignace meet was the first of two meets on the Blue Devils’ schedule for the week.
