The Postal Service allows countless Americans to stay in touch and receive the goods they need, no matter where they live. It’s absolutely critical to our country
So, when service is disrupted, it has serious consequences for communities in Michigan and all across the United States.
Unfortunately, that’s happening right now. USPS is making significant changes to its processing and distribution network — including in the Upper Peninsula. Michiganders in the U.P. have already seen delays in their service. Service disruptions make it harder to test drinking water, get veterans the medication they need, and more.
That’s why, as Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, I held a hearing to conduct oversight on the operations of the Postal Service. I heard directly from Postal Service officials who are responsible for these changes — and pressed them for answers on local service and mail delays.
It’s been two years since I led the passage of the bipartisan Postal Service Reform Act — the first major reform to the Postal Service in over 15 years — which is helping to strengthen the agency for years to come. I’ll keep doing everything I can to improve service, hold Postal Service executives accountable, and keep our communities connected.
