Blue Devil Boys Take Second in Boyne

The Sault High Blue Devils Track and Field teams traveled downstate earlier this week to compete in the Boyne City Invitational. The boys placed second overall in a field of 15 teams with 88 points. A number of Blue Devils earned personal records (PRs) at the invite, and the top eight placers earners points for their team. Ryver Ryckeghem (11.55) won the 100m dash, and Donnivan Dykraaf (12.05) placed sixth. Ryckeghem (23.8 – PR) was runner up in the 200m dash. Shea Armstrong (10:33.69 – PR) was fourth in the 3200m run. Isaac Niebuhr (18.27) placed sixth in the 110m high hurdles, and Owen Rice (44.12 – PR) took third in the 300m low hurdles, with Niebuhr (47.34) finishing eighth. 

The 4×100 relay team of Dean Roe, Dykraaf, Max VanDoren, and Ryckeghem (46.42) finished second, and Roe, Caleb Klier, Jaden Rishmawi, and Ryckeghem (1:39.11) placed fifth in the 4×200 relay. Klier, Dykraaf, VanDoren and Rice (3:43.34) took third in the 4×400 relay, and Eli Hills, Armstrong, Klier and Adam Brandt (9:06.92) placed sixth in the 4×800 relay. 

The Blue Devils racked up more points in the field events. Evan Arbic (42’1) was runner up in shot put, and placed fifth (122’9 – PR) in discus. Talon Thomas-Holm (5’8) was runner up in the high jump. Rayce Rizzo (11’0) took second in the pole vault, and sixth (17’4) in the long jump. 

The Lady Blue Devils finished the day in fourth place, with 86 points, also in a field of 15 teams. Bella Smith (13.71) was runner up in the 100m dash, and won (27.99 – PR) the 200m event. Dayna Szabo (1:05.08) placed fifth in the 400m dash. Abby Walther (5:42.90 – PR) was runner up in the 1600m run. Calla Armstrong (14:00.76) placed eighth in the 3200m run. Ahnaka Oshelski (17.63) finished third in the 100m high hurdles, and Ava Mayer (57.61) placed seventh in the 300m low hurdles. 

The girls had top two finishes in all of their relay events. In the 4×100, Natalie Prestien, Grace Mayer, Talyah Pace and Smith (55.01) finished second, and Prestien, Oshelski, Mayer and Smith (1:53.74) won the 4×200. Isabella DeWildt, Mayer, Walther and Szabo (4:30.07) were runners up in the 4×400, and DeWildt, Szabo, Elise Proulx and Walther (10:55.55) finished second in the 4×800 relay. 

Thrower Katie Anderson finished fifth (32’7) in shot put and fourth (99’2.75) in discus. Gracie Akridge (4’4) was seventh and Mayer (4’2) jumped eighth n the high jump, and Maddie McLean (12’9) had an eighth place finish in the long jump. 

The Blue Devils will travel to Escanaba for another invitational meet at the end of the week.
