Blue Devils Win; Ryckeghem Breaks 100m Dash Record

The Sault High Blue Devils Track and Field teams added two more championship titles to their season after winning the Cheboygan Rotary Club Invitational. Both squads sent full teams, allowing a number of athletes to compete and work on improving their times and distances. 

The boys won with a score of 187, over St Ignace 135, and Cheboygan 125.5. Senior Ryver Ryckeghem (10.8) broke the school record in the 100m dash that was set just one year ago, at the same tournament. TreVon Johnson (11.9 – PR) finished fourth, and Javonte Bellamy (12.0) was sixth. Johnny Osborn (25.9) won the adaptive race. Ryckeghem (22.7 – PR) also won the 200m dash, and Dean Roe (23.9 – PR) took fourth. Osborn (53.9) won the adaptive race. In the 400m dash, Max VanDoren (56.9 – PR) was runner up, Adam Brandt (58.8 – PR) was fifth, and Jaden Rishmawi (59.4 – PR) was seventh. Osborn (2:02.9) won his adaptive event. 

Evan Huyck (2:20.20) placed third in the 800m run and Chase Aldridge (2:28) finished eighth. Gabe Litzner won both the 1600 (4:41.9) and 3200m run (10:58.6). Eli Hills (5:11.1) was second and Aldridge (5:19.3 – PR) was third. Hayden Preston (5:43.4) placed sixth in the mile run. Shea Armstrong (11:07) was runner up in the two mile run, Daniel Bowerman (11:50.5) was fourth and Easton Hills (13:21.5) was eighth. 

Isaac Niebuhr (17.9) took third in the 110m high hurdles, with Owen Rice (18.5) in fifth, and Wyatt Peabody (19.2) in seventh. Rice (46.0) was runner up in the 300m low hurdles, and Niebuhr (47.7) finished fourth. 

Roe, Rishmawi, Caleb Klier and Donnivan Dykraaf (1:38.40) won the 4×200 relay. Klier, Dykraaf, Eli Hills and Rice (3:48.1) won the 4×400, and Eli Hills, Armstrong, Brandt, and Klier (9:12.9) won the 4×800 relay. 

Evan Arbic placed second in both the shot put (43’5.5) and discus (116’5). Walter Anderson (37’6) was fourth and Jesse Justice-Beck (33’11) threw sixth in shot put. Mason Berry (86’4) threw eighth in discus. Johnny Osborn (15’1.75) won the adaptive event. Talon Thomas-Holm (5’0) won the high jump, and Niebuhr (4’0) was fourth. Rayce Rizzo (12’6) won the pole vault. Dykraaf (16’1.5) won the long jump, and Peabody (15’2) jumped eighth. 

The girls had 191 points over St Ignace 108, and Cheboygan 102. Ahnaka Oshelski (13.1 – PR) won the 100m dash, with Bella Smith (13.8) in third, Natalie Prestien (13.9 – PR) in fifth, and Abrianna Spencer (14.0 – PR) in seventh. Smith (26.8) won the 200m dash. Dayna Szabo (1:03.9) won the 400m dash, with Grace Mayer (1:04.5 – PR) in second, Alyvia Coullard (1:10.7 – PR) in sixth, and Natalie Heyrman (1:12.8) in eighth.  Taryn Pratt (2:35.1 – PR) won the 800m run and Stephanie Jones (2:45.7) finished fourth. Abby Walther (6:00.5) was runner up in the 1600m run, with Jones (6:14.5 – PR) in fifth. Leighton Nyboer (16:02.1) placed fifth in the 3200m run. 

Oshelski (16.9 – PR) won the 100m high hurdles, and Annabelle Fazzari (17.0) was runner up. Ava Mayer (18.8 – PR) placed fifth. Oshelski (51.0 – PR) won the 300m low hurdles, with Fazzari (53.4) in fourth, and Ava Mayer (55.9) in fifth. 

The Lady Blue Devils swept the four relay events. Prestien, Grace Mayer, Isabella DeWildt, and Smith (54.2) won the 4×100. Szabo, Oshelski, Grace Mayer and Smith (1:53.4) won the 4×200. DeWildt, Coullard, Walther, and Szabo (4:33.4) won the 4×400, and DeWildt, Jones, Pratt, and Walther (10:33.3) won the 4×800.

Annabelle Fazzari won both the shot put (31’8.5) and discus (98’8 – PR) events. Abby Kachur (26’4.75 – PR) threw fourth and Thelma Osumili (26’3.5) threw fifth. Jordyn Giffen (4’4) and Gracie Akridge (4’4) tied for fifth place in the high jump. Heyrman (7’0) was runner up in pole vault and placed fourth (12’10) in the long jump. Maddie McLean (12’3.5) jumped fifth, Giffen (12’2.5) was sixth and Madison Lee (12’0 – PR) placed eighth. 

The Blue Devils will wrap up their regular season in East Jordan with an invitational meet.
