Learn about wild mushroom foraging with Outdoor Skills Academy classes

Mesmerized by Michigan’s mushrooms? Check out one of the Outdoor Skills Academy’s upcoming wild mushroom clinics, perfect for first-time foragers or anyone looking to learn more about mushroom hunting.

Discover how to identify seasonal wild mushrooms, get some tips on where to start looking for them and learn about proper techniques for transport, cleaning, consumption and home preservation.

Classes will start at 10 a.m. and run four to five hours, starting in the classroom and then moving to the woods nearby each location. Lunch is included.

  • Saturday, Aug. 3, at the Oden State Fish Hatchery Visitor Center (Emmet County).
  • Sunday, Aug. 18, and Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Carl T. Johnson Hunting and Fishing Center in Mitchell State Park (Wexford County).
  • Saturday, Sept. 14, at Tahquamenon Falls State Park (Chippewa County).
  • Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park Visitor Center (Ontonagon County).
