Marquette, MI — The Upper Peninsula Arts and Culture Alliance is set to present its Second Annual Conference, taking place on September 28. This year’s event, themed “Advocating for Arts and Culture,” will spotlight innovative strategies and collaborative models that enhance arts and culture in the Upper Peninsula through effective advocacy. Following a successful first ever conference last year in Iron Mountain, the Alliance will host this year’s conference in Marquette at The Northern Center at Northern Michigan University, with a reception the night before (September 27) at the Beaumier Heritage Center.
The day-long conference will feature an array of distinguished presenters, including keynote speaker Alison Watson, Director of the Michigan Arts and Culture Council (MACC), as well as leading regional arts and culture professionals such as Tiina Morin (City of Marquette Arts and Culture), Kristine Granger (Bay College and Rock Street Artist Residency), and economic forerunners such as Christopher Germain (Lake Superior Community Partnership), Mark Bevins (Thunder Bay Inn), and Barb Kramer (Dickinson County Board of Commissioners).
Panel discussions and presentations will explore diverse topics from grant writing to economic research, offering practical advice on overcoming challenges and driving positive change. Case studies on integrating arts and culture into urban and rural development will explore successful models and partnerships that benefit local economies and enrich community well-being. Attendees will also enjoy a special keynote concert by Phil Lynch, an award-winning UP performer and educator, known for his inspirational songs and engaging presentations.
Conference attendees will have the opportunity to network and connect with leading professionals, gain valuable insights, and contribute to the future of arts and culture in the Upper Peninsula.
