Winning Streak Over for the Blue Devils

Friday night the Cheboygan Chiefs broke a nine year winning streak for the Blue Devils Football program. In the Sault’s first home game of the season, Junior Caleb Klier put the Blue Devils on the scoreboard first with a 20 yard run in the first quarter. The extra point kick was blocked by Cheboygan. In the second quarter, Cheboygan countered, with their own touchdown run, and successful extra point kick. At the end of the first half, it was Sault 6; Cheboygan 7.

The Chiefs hit the field in the second half on a mission and scored four more touchdowns. The Sault got on the board one more time with a pass from sophomore quarterback Brylon VanElswyck to junior Trevin Maleport at the end of the fourth quarter. The final score of this non-conference match up was Sault 12; Cheboygan 35.

The Blue Devils (0-2) will host the Cadillac Vikings (0-2) on Friday in their first Big North Conference game of the season. With both teams looking for their first win, it will no doubt be a good matchup at Van Citters field.

The Sault Blue Devils JV team fell 48-0 to Cheboygan in Cheboygan on Thursday. They will travel to Cadillac this week.
