The Sault High Blue Devils Cross Country teams wrapped up their successful seasons with a pair of invitationals. In early October, the teams competed at the Fourth Annual Harbor Springs Invitational. “WOW did we run well. First time in nearly a generation we’ve beaten Harbor Springs and Petoskey. 3/4 of the team PRed!” an excited Coach Jim Martin exclaimed. The varsity boys placed first with 24 points, followed by Petoskey 64 and Harbor Springs 65. Gabe Litzner (16:24.84) won the race, with Evan Huyck (17:28.04) in third, Eli Hills (17:45.22) in fifth, Daniel Bowerman (17:49.76) in seventh and Adam Brandt (18:10.89) in tenth. Chase Aldridge (18:28.77) and Ian Southwell (19:02.82) rounded out the roster for the winning team.
The girls placed fourth, with a score of 104, behind Harbor Springs with 31, Boyne City with 72, and Grayling with 103 points. Isabelle McCord (21:39.8) finished eighth with Stephanie Jones (21:40.87) right behind her in ninth place. Regan Sporte (22:43.64), Isabeau Woodard (24:25.87), Elise Proulx (24:38.97), Eleanor Carey (26:04.65) and Addyson Labadie (26:11.66) all contributed to the team’s fourth place finish.
The middle school teams competed in the Harnor Springs two mile run. The boys edged out Grayling by one point, and Boyne City came in third. Drew Burtt (12:02.31) and Carson Clements (12:03.67) finished third and fifth respectively. Parker Hills (14:06.20), Mace Kavanaugh (14:20.55), David Hollister (14:20.72), Chase Halvorsen (14:36.15) and Spencer Jones (14:39.71) completed the boys’ roster.
The girls were runners up to Kingsley, with Harbor Springs coming in third. Cora Goulet (13:10.81) was the second one to cross the finish line, and Alexa Schwartz (14:13.89) placed sixth. Araleah Campbell (15:16.57), Anna Klozotsky (15:48.09), Talia Klozotsky (15:48.35), Allie Goulet (15:55.19), and Olivia Nyboer (17:46.58) rounded out the girls’ team.
The squads then competed at Rudyard’s Autumn Classic, the last meet before UP Finals. “It was senior day so all seniors got to run varsity. Every one of the “varsity” boys PRed or SRed. Great way for all but one of them to end their career.” Evan Huyck (16:54.54) led the way with a third place finish, followed by Eli Hills (17:21.18) in fifth. McKal Berry (19:11.18), Isaac Brindley (20:55.88), Heath Muller (21:45.57), Camren McClenny (23:26.98) and Johnny Osborn (32:04.06) represented the Blue Devils well.
Isabelle McCord (21:09.50) was the top Blue Devil in the girls’ race, followed by Regan Sporte (22:10.15), Isabeau Woodard (23:30.01), Elise Proulx (23:35.05), Addyson Labadie (24:09.94), Eleanor Carey (24:33.15) and Isabella Cicco (25:47.73).
For the JV/Open boys’ race, all seven Blue Devils made the top ten. Gabe Litzner (15:32.52) was first, Shea Armstrong (16:27.77) was second, Chase Aldridge (17:39.3) was third, Daniel Bowerman (17:44.63) was fourth and Adam Brandt (17:48.57) finished fifth. Ian Southwell (18:55.04) finished seventh and Ryan O’Connor was ninth.
River Brey (26:09.70) was the fastest Blue Devil for the girls’ JV/Open race, placing sixth. Nicole Perez (26:24.32) finished seventh, and Taylor Meilstrup (26:30.58) came in eighth. Adelyn Corbiere (26:52.31), Leighton Nyboer (26:53.29), Gianna Sayer (26:54.21) and Chloe Brow (30:05.21) rounded out the girls’ roster.
