SAULT STE MARIE, Mich. (WLUC) – A rescue took place Thursday after a man found himself pinned beneath large sheets of drywall weighing 700 pounds.
According to a press release from the MSP, a 43-year-old man from Levering was working alone at the Michigan State Police Sault Ste Marie post under construction. The man attempted to transport large drywall sheets when they unexpectedly fell, trapping him underneath. He managed to call for help and Trooper Ferraro, who was inside the post at the time, faintly heard the man’s cries for help and immediately rushed outside.
Trooper Ferraro lifted the heavy drywall sheets up enough for the trapped man to get out. Due to Ferraro’s response, the MSP says the man did not suffer any major injuries and has expressed sincere gratitude for the deputy’s efforts.
“This incident could have had a much more serious outcome,” said Trooper Ferraro. “I’m just glad I was nearby to help.”
The MSP says It’s important to prioritize safety when working alone, whether at home or on the job. Before starting any project, plan your tasks carefully and identify potential hazards to ensure you are prepared for any challenges. Additionally, it may be a good idea to notify a friend or family member about your work plans, including the expected duration and location. This way, someone will be aware of your activities and can check on you if needed.
