LUCE COUNTY, MICHIGAN. A Newberry man has been arraigned on charges of Resisting and
Obstructing Police in the 92 nd District Court- Newberry stemming from an incident which he was
previously arrested for.
On 12/10/2024, a trooper from the MSP Sault Ste. Marie Post was on patrol in Newberry when he observed a vehicle with a defective equipment violation. The trooper attempted to complete a traffic stop and make contact with the driver. However, when the vehicle stopped the driver proceeded to exit the vehicle and attempted to run away from the trooper.
Subsequently, the suspect was located and arrested after he attempted to hide from troopers in
a nearby residence’s crawl space. The suspect was identified as 30-year-old Allen Wheeler
from Newberry.
Wheeler was lodged in the Luce County Jail on charges of resisting and obstructing a police
officer, operating a vehicle without insurance, and operating an unregistered vehicle.
Wheeler was arraigned in the 92nd District Court on 12/19/2024. His bond was set at $1,000
cash and he is due in court again on February 03, 2025. The defendant is considered innocent
unless proven guilty.
