Laker Men’s Basketball Earn Dominant 104-42 Win Over Fanshawe

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The No. 17 Lake Superior State (LSSU) men’s basketball team (10-2, 1-1 GLIAC) earned a decisive 104-42 victory over the visiting Fanshawe Falcons (2-8) on Monday.

The Falcons struck first to open up the game, but the Lakers responded with a pair of threes from Tyson Edmondson (Ypsilanti, Mich.). Harrison Sorrelle (Grand Haven, Mich.) would then get involved with a three of his own before grabbing a steal and a dunk on the fast break on the very next possession. The Falcons were able to claw back to within one, but a 7-0 LSSU run extended the lead once again. However, Fanshawe kept fighting, closing the gap again, but the Lakers were able to settle in, taking control with a 15-2 run. A three from Blake Cassidy (Pellston, Mich.) would then kick-start a 9-0 run for LSSU to close out the half leading 51-25.

The Lakers carried their momentum into the second frame, opening with back-to-back baskets from Kingsley Perkins (Ypsilanti, Mich.) to ignite a 14-2 run. LSSU would then follow that up with a run of 13-0 to extend their lead to 48 points. Fanshawe would continue to battle, but the Lakers continued to press the attack, this time with an 18-2 run on their way to securing a dominant 104-42 victory to round out 2024.

Five different Lakers finished the day in double-digit scoring, led by Edmondson with 16 with the others being Adam Harakow (Edmonton, Alta.) (14), Sorrelle (13), Perkins (10), and Kendall Smith (Muskegon, Mich.) (10). Meanwhile, Nino Carter-Smith (Warren, Mich.) dished out a game-high 8 assists without committing a single turnover.

The Lakers return to action when they resume GLIAC play on Thursday, Jan. 2 when they host Wayne State with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
