SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women’s basketball team (4-7, 1-2 GLIAC) fell to the Wayne State Warriors (7-4, 2-1 GLIAC) by a final score of 75-48 on Thursday.
The Lakers jumped out to an early 5-2 lead after a jumper from Breah Golden (Arcadia, Wis.) and a three from CeCe Hacker (Omaha, Neb.), but the Warriors managed to fight back to take the lead before pulling ahead to close out the opening quarter.
Taylor Stacy (Toledo, Ohio) hit a three to start the second quarter and cut into the deficit, but despite a fast break three from Golden, Wayne State was able to extend their lead to 45-19 going into the halftime break.
The Lakers pushed back to start the second half, striking with a 7-0 run that featured a three from Hacker as well as a pair of baskets from Grace Bradford (Maple City, Mich.), and both Taylor Clarey (Rochester, Mich.) and Malia Thelen (Portland, Mich) would then get involved with a pair of threes of their own. However, Wayne State managed to weather the storm and close out the game in the fourth quarter.
The Lakers will look to bounce back when they host the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals on Saturday, Jan. 4 with tipoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
