Laker Women’s Basketball Fall to Ferris State

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women’s basketball team (5-14, 2-9 GLIAC) fell to the Ferris State Bulldogs (15-5, 9-2 GLIAC) by a final score of 83-46 on Thursday.

Both teams battled early with the Lakers getting a pair of threes from CeCe Hacker (Omaha, Neb.) and Gracey Metz (Hartland, Mich.), but the Bulldogs found themselves ahead by four after the first ten minutes of action.

The Lakers continued to fight early in the second quarter as another three from Metz knotted up the score at 17-17. Ferris State was able to pull ahead, but Grace Bradford (Maple City, Mich.) struck from the corner to keep her team within striking distance. However, the Bulldogs managed to extend their lead going into the break.

Ferris State pressed their attack in the third quarter despite multiple buckets inside by Bradford and Breah Golden (Arcadia, Wis.), and despite a pair of threes from Taylor Stacy (Toledo, Ohio) early in the fourth, the Bulldogs held on to secure the victory.

Despite the loss, Bradford led her team in scoring and rebounding with 13 points and 9 rebounds while also dishing out 4 assists.

The Lakers return to action on Saturday, Feb. 1 when they host the Roosevelt Lakers for the first time in Bud Cooper Gymnasium with tipoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
