“There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.” – Proverbs 6:16-19 (ESV)
As an older person, I don’t ever remember there being such hate, anger, and wickedness, in our country. Years ago, I got rid of my television. I have never regretted it, but unfortunately, I can’t totally shut myself off from what’s happening in our country. I see it on the internet, I hear it in people’s voices, and see the turmoil in their faces. Although I am selective in what I choose to read and see on the internet, it’s apparent that our country is a mess. “It is an abomination to kings to do evil, for the throne is established by righteousness.” Proverbs 16:12 (ESV)
I remember as a child going to church on Sunday with my parents and siblings. I loved learning about Jesus and memorizing scripture and it was fun telling Mom and Dad what I had learned. I remember one particular Sunday, every child in our Sunday school class was given a small children’s edition of the New Testament. Jesus was on the front cover with a group of children. That was the start of my relationship with Him. I didn’t understand most of it then, but as I attended Sunday school, vacation Bible school, church school in fifth and sixth grades, youth group, Bible study, and Sunday church services, I grew in my knowledge of what living life as a Christian means. It gave me the foundation and principles to live life righteously.
God wants us to treat people fairly and respectfully, be kind and forgiving, and serve others through love. Building a foundation in our children with Christ is important. Learning morals, values, and what is taught in His Word are the tools needed for future leaders in our Government. “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” – Proverbs 22:6 (ESV)
Prayer
Heavenly Father, as we go about our day, remind us to constantly be in prayer with You. Help us to control our anger, rebuke retaliation, and let go of the hatred of others. Guide us in our daily walk with You so that we are reminded to love others as You love us. In Jesus’ name, amen.
