Laker Women’s Basketball Face Setback at NMU

MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Lake Superior State (LSSU) women’s basketball team (5-18, 2-13 GLIAC) fell on the road to the Northern Michigan (NMU) Wildcats (17-6, 11-4 GLIAC) by a final score of 67-44 on Thursday.

Jaden Wilder (Manton, Mich.) got things started with a jumper, and a three from CeCe Hacker (Omaha, Neb.) had the Lakers ahead 8-4. However, despite another three from Hacker, NMU was able to push ahead to take a six point lead by the end of the opening quarter.

Gracey Metz (Hartland, Mich.) opened up the second quarter with a three to trim the lead in half, but the Wildcats responded with a run of their own to extend their lead before halftime.

The Lakers kept fighting in the second half with fourth quarter buckets in the paint from Grace Bradford (Maple City, Mich.) and Hacker, but it ultimately would not be enough as the Wildcats held on to secure the win.

Metz led the Lakers offensively with 11 points on the day while also securing a game-high seven rebounds.

The Lakers return to action on Saturday, Feb. 15 when they face the Michigan Tech Huskies with tipoff scheduled for 12 p.m.
