40-year-old, Leonard Sannes of Manistee was arrested on February 23 in connection with serious threats made against the Manistee County Sheriff.
On February 23 at approximately 7:45 a.m., troopers from the Cadillac Post received a report of a person who was posting numerous Facebook messages threating to kill the Sheriff and harm other Manistee County officials. Troopers and detectives from the Cadillac Post worked together to gather evidence and maintain surveillance until they were able to obtain an arrest warrant for Sannes. After troopers observed Sannes leave his residence in a vehicle, they performed a traffic stop on Old Maple Road near Preuss Road in Filer Township, ultimately arresting him without incident. Sannes was lodged at the Mason County Jail. After executing a search warrant at Sannes’ residence, troopers seized a sawed-off shotgun and ammunition.
Sannes was arraigned on February 24 in the 85th District Court of Manistee County for Aggravated Stalking, Using a Computer to Commit a Crime and Possession of a Short-barreled Shotgun. His bond was set at $250,000 cash or surety and his next court appearance in on March 5 at 3:30 p.m.
