SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – Trailing for much of the contest, the Timmins Rock struck four times in final five and a half minutes of regulation to knock off the Soo Eagles 4-1 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League get together Saturday evening at Pullar Stadium.
Banging in his team-leading 33rd tally at 11:11 of the first period, Cooper Fredericks gave Sault Ste. Marie the early edge when he took a Lucas Caulfield feed from down low and lifted it over Timmins’ netminder Dryden Riley.
That also gives Fredericks points in seven straight outings.
Staying 1-0 Soo into the second stanza, the quality goaltending of the Eagles’ Mason Burkes and Riley of the Rock kept the session scoreless.
Action in the third saw Timmins eventually solve Burkes when Brant Romaniuk was set-up in the slot and wired a shot into the net at 14:36.
The tally also ran a consecutive game point streak to 16 for the skilled forward.
Taking the lead less than a minute later, Scaddan benefitted from a turnover right in front, then deftly put his stick between his legs and snapped in the eventually game-winner for a highlight-reel marker.
Timmins kept coming and got some insurance when Jack Kelly chipped in a pass from Reece Liu with 3:20 remaining
Capping off the road victory in the final minute, Kelly pumped in a long-range empty netter from his own zone, while his club was shorthanded, to finish off his club’s late outburst.
The win moves the Rock into fourth spot in the NOJHL standings, percentage points ahead of the Eagles, while also holding a game in hand.
