HOUGHTON, Mich. – The Lake Superior State (LSSU) men’s basketball program (10-5, 2-3 GLIAC) came away with a dominant victory on the road against the Michigan Tech Huskies (5-10, 2-4 GLIAC) by a final score of 78-55 behind a career-high 29 points from Kingsley Perkins (Ypsilanti, Mich.) on Saturday.
Tyson Edmondson (Ypsilanti, Mich.) opened up the scoring with a three before Perkins found Hunter Soper (Lexington, Mich.) for the jam to put the Lakers up 5-0. The Huskies were able to tie up the score at 7-7, but Edmondson pushed the Lakers back in front. The Lakers continued to press ahead with a 7-0 run that was capped off with a three from Andy Soma (Traverse City, Mich.), and the Huskies would continue to have no answer for Perkins and Edmondson who continued to score at will as the Lakers went into the halftime break leading 46-29.
Perkins continued his dominant performance in the post in the second half with 15 more points on his way to a career-day and an emphatic LSSU victory over the Huskies.
Perkins ended the night leading all players in scoring with a career-high 29 points while also grabbing nine rebounds, dishing out four assists, and rejecting three Husky attempts for an outstanding all-around game. Meanwhile, Edmondson finished with 21 points while shooting a perfect 6-6 for the floor.
The Lakers return to action when they face Grand Valley on Thursday, Jan. 18 in Bud Cooper Gymnasium with tipoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
