Obituaries

Alma Irene (MacLean) Quinn, age 90, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on August 15, 2024,
at MyMichigan Health Center Sault. She was born on September 7, 1933, in Brimley, Michigan,
to Hugh and Thelma (Williams) MacLean.

Alma was born on the family farm in Brimley, Michigan, with five sisters and two brothers
during the great depression. Being part of the silent generation, she helped on her family farm
during WWII, with many nights sitting in darkness fearing being bombed. She would help with
chores, earning money for school clothes. She and her sisters would go to town babysitting for
many local families. She met the love of her life Bill Quinn at a young age, and they married on
November 28, 1953, in Sault Ste, Marie. They raised four children while she worked in
hospitality cleaning Motel’s and absolutely loved that she met several Red Wing Players, who
came to town for Training Camp at Pullar Stadium. Later, she worked with her sister Joyce at the
Crestview Motel. She spent several years working at the Salvation Army with her special niece
Cindy, and good friends Anja, and Lana.

Alma often said her happiest time in life was being home raising her children. She was the best
mother and grandmother you could ever ask. She always kept her keen sense of humor in her
life.

Alma favorite hobbies included family time watching Red Wings games and TV shows
“Everybody Loves Raymond”, “Barney Miller”, “The Golden Girls”, and “Archie Bunker.” She
loved sitting outside on her patio. She loved spending Holidays with family.

Alma is survived by her son, Michael Quinn; daughter, Lori (Lon) Desormeau; son in-law,
Michael Johnston; sister, Ellen Lehre; brother in-law Tom Sauro; and sister in-law Pat MacLean;
grandchildren, William L. Quinn, Joseph Quinn, Sherri (Don) Bloomfield, Terry (Nicole)
Wilkins, Christina Wilkins, Michael (Angela) Johnston Jr., Edward (Cody) Desormeau, Dustin
Desormeau, Len (Cali) Desormeau; great-grandchildren, Julian, Jonathan, Silas. Rachel, Emmy
(Jeff), Alyssa (Jack), Aaron, Sidney, Jenna, Conner, and Rhett; great great-grandchildren, Ryan,
Jaxson, Cora, Lauren, Liam, and Weston; several nieces and nephews; and two special little
guys, Hayden and Ethan Cameron, she adored.
Alma was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Quinn; son, William A. Quinn; daughter, Elaine L. Johnston; parents Hugh & Thelma; siblings, Lawrence MacLean, Margaret (Jake) LaLonde, Joyce Sauro, Wilma (Ralph) Vert, Bonnie (Cal) Vert, Wally (Lillian) MacLean.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 11:00 AM till 1:00 PM at Family Life
Funeral Homes, 4951 S. M-129, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783. Funeral Service will follow at 1:00
PM. Luncheon will take place at Soo Township Hall in Sault Ste. Marie at 4:30 PM.

Final Resting Place will be at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens, in Bruce Township, Michigan.
Memorial contributions made to the Salvation Army, 132 W Spruce St. Sault Ste. Marie 49783.
