Arnold “Arnie” Frank Visnaw, age 69, of St. Ignace Michigan, passed away on Wednesday,
December 6, 2023, at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey, Michigan. He was
born on August 18, 1954, in St. Ignace to Arnold and Lucille (Cadotte) Visnaw.
Arnold graduated from Mackinac Island High School with the Class of 1974 and enlisted in the
United States Coast Guard after graduation. After serving ten years in the military, Arnold
returned to St. Ignace where he met and married his ex-wife, Amber Lemon and they settled in
Rudyard, Michigan, to raise their four children. Arnold was employed by Kewadin Casinos
working in surveillance for twenty-three years before retiring in 2016.
Arnold was a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians and was in the United
States Coast Guard from 1974 to 1984, serving on the USCGC Mackinaw.
Arnold enjoyed golfing, western movies and was a Detroit Tigers, Green Bay Packers and UofM
football enthusiast.
Arnold is survived by his children, Austin (Vanessa) Visnaw of Rudyard, Eli (Sky) Visnaw of
Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Grace Visnaw of Sault Ste. Marie, and Ayden (Paige) Visnaw of
Sault Ste. Marie; grandchildren, NimkiiNoodin Jared Visnaw, and Remington Robert Visnaw;
siblings, Jenny Martin of Wolverine, Michigan, Luella (John) Rautio of Wisconsin, Rose
Witgreve of St. Ignace, Fran (Richard) Brown of North Carolina, and David Visnaw of North
Carolina.
Arnold was proceeded in death by his parents, Arnold and Lucille Visnaw; daughter, Aubrey
Visnaw; brother’s Paul, Melvin, Donald and Clarence Visnaw; and sister Vicky McKinney.
A Celebration of Life will be held in August 2024.
The final resting place will be on Mackinac Island.
