Obituary For Brian Michael Marquette
Brian Michael Marquette, age 64, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on December 13 th , 2023, at the EUP Hospice house in Sault Ste. Marie. He fought a courageous battle against aggressive
prostate cancer for the last six months. He was born on December 25, 1958, to Joseph and
Viginia (Mazurczyk) Marquette, Jr.
Brian grew up in Detroit Michigan and graduated from Cody High School. He attended Eastern
Michigan University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business. Brian joined the United States Air Force and served for six years. He sold computers for a few years before moving to
Sault Ste. Marie. He then started his own painting company, painting a variety of buildings, the
Iroquois Point lighthouse, Lake Superior State University buildings, and other large and small
projects. Brian changed careers in 1999, began working for the State of Michigan as a custody
officer. He met Penny while working in the Segregation unit at the prison in 2010. Brain and
Penny married on September 14, 2013, at the Rosedale Community Church in Michigan. He
retired in 2017 after eighteen years with the State of Michigan.
Brian enjoyed fishing, bird hunting, photography, and woodworking. He was an excellent cook
and could improve any recipe! He also enjoyed watching the Detroit Lions football.
Brian is survived by his wife, Penny Rogers; step-daughters, Lindsay St. Louis (Dan Conlin) of
Anchorage, Alaska, Alexis (Rodney) White of Sudbury, Ontario; granddaughter, Maevy White;
brother, Kenny (Vickie) Marquette of Westland; sisters, Diane Reid of Waterford, Michigan,
Debbie (Larry) Witkowski of Livonia, Darlene(Todd) Friend of Livonia; sisters-in-law, Nancy
Swenkowski of Detroit, Jean (Tim) Foley of Cheboygan, Michigan, Nancy Streeter of Sault Ste.
Marie, Debbie McCaig of White River, Ontario; brothers-in law, Jim ( Donna) Rogers of Sault
Ste;. Marie, George (Arlene) Rogers of Brimley; many nieces and nephews. The family would
like to give a special thank you to their nephew, Scott Marquette, for helping him in his battle
with cancer and his sister, Darlene Friend, for her many meals, housing and assistance.
Brian is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Virginia (Mazurczyk) Marquette, Jr;
brothers, Gary Marquette, Joseph Marquette and David Marquette; brothers-in-law, Ted Reid
and Roy Rogers, Jr.
At his request there will be no service.
His final resting place will be Oaklawn Chapel Gardens of Bruce Township.
