Obituaries

Carolyn Jeanne Suman, age 79, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on December 5, 2023, at MyMichigan in Sault Ste. Marie. She was born on December 22, 1943, in Hamilton, Ohio, to William Asa and Betty Jeanne (Brubaker) Morrow.

Carolyn grew up in Gratis and Camden, Ohio, and graduated from Shawnee High School. She then attended Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education. Carolyn and Bill married after college, on November 1,1969, in Gratis, Ohio. She began her love for teaching in Ohio and Arizona and finished her career in Soo Township Elementary for a total of 31 years. Carolyn retired from teaching in 2006.

Carolyn was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Sault Ste. Marie. She had a love for music and was a choir director for some time.

Carolyn enjoyed sewing, music, gardening, fishing, and morel mushroom hunting.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Billy “Bill” Suman; daughters, Rebecca “Becky” (Carl) Suman Oldham of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Jennifer (Patrick) Daniel of Charlevoix, Michigan; sister, Linda (Alan) Crumbaker of West Alexandria, Ohio; brother, Don (Karen) Morrow of Bradenton, Florida; and sister-in-law, Luan Morrow of Bradenton, Florida.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Morrow.

There will be a Celebration of Life on December 16, 2023, at 11:00 AM, at the Calvary Baptist Church, with a potluck to immediately follow.
