Charles Matthew Shinew, age 46, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died at the Medilodge of the Sault Ste. Marie on September 19, 2023. He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on October 30, 1976, to LeRoy John and Francine Lee (Hetterick) Shinew.

Charles grew up all over the place from Michigan to California. He attended Greenville High School, and he worked in a couple factories and in construction for a few years, before an injury caused him to retire early. He moved back to the Greenville area where he raised his children. He also worked as a tattoo artist for several years before moving to Newberry, Michigan, in 2017.

Charles was an outstanding artist. He enjoyed many different crafts and hobbies including wood carving, leather work, blacksmithing, and the fine arts, like painting, drawing, and airbrushing. He was also interested in all things survivalist.

Charles is survived by his daughter, Amber (Chris) DeBruyn of Jenison, Michigan; sons, Charles Shinew II of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Donavon Shinew of Newberry, Michigan; grandchild, Savannah Shinew; brother, Robert "Bobby" (Brenda) Shinew of Sand Lake, Michigan; and sisters, Sue Dines of Wyoming, Michigan, and Leanne Obersig (Jerry) Franklin of Costa Rica

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, LeRoy and Francine; and brother, Richard Shinew.
