Obituary For Christopher William Reid
In an unhappy twist as unexpected as the Spanish Inquisition, Christopher William Reid, 64, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away on April 14, 2025, at MyMichigan Medical Center-Sault. He was born on December 29, 1960, to Charles and Edna (Orvis) Reid.
Although a lifelong resident of Sault Ste. Marie, Chris’s true love was St. Joseph’s Island in Ontario, Canada. Being the youngest of six siblings, Chris was always a character--a precocious kindergartener, a mischievous adolescent, and a deeply stubborn and independent man who always followed his principles...for better or worse. He was the OG internet troll, both highly intelligent and possessing a sense of humor so nuanced many missed it. His first language was sarcasm, and he never hesitated to share what he was thinking. Again, for better or worse. Though he did not finish high school, Chris received a bachelor’s degree from Lake Superior State University. He was a jack-of-all-trades and did a variety of work throughout his life, including cab driving in “the Soo” for many years.
Chris loved riding the Schwinn bike he inherited in 1976, taking ridiculously long walks throughout the city, reading huge paperbacks, baking bread, and “resting his eyes” to the hockey and baseball games on the radio. He also enjoyed spending time with his two cats Black and Grey, his grand-dog Pepper, and his kids--probably in that order.
Chris is survived by his daughters, Samantha (John) Reid-Goldberg and Alexandria; siblings, Mary-Lou (Lee) Thon, Kerry (Ernest) Tam, Greg (Amanda) Reid, Kathy (Robert) Casey; and many nieces and nephews.
Chris was preceded in death by his wife, Judy (Newcomb); parents, Charles and Edna; and brother Patrick.
A Celebration of Life will be later this summer.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Gift of Life, 3861 Research Park Dr., Ann Arbor, Michigan, and that you support your favorite distillery by raising one more up in Chris’s honor.
