Dannie Lee Hendrickson, age 83, of Sugar Island, Michigan, died on December 24, 2023, at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital, in Petoskey, Michigan. He was born on September 18,1940, in Toledo, Ohio, to Harold and Dorotha (Penhorwood) Hendrickson.

Dannie grew up in Hibbing, Minnesota and Toledo, Ohio and attended Clay High School in Toledo. He joined the United States Army and served in Germany. Dannie returned to Ohio and met Charlotte May Carr on Halloween night. They married on June 17, 1962, at the Bethany Methodist Church in Oregon, Ohio. Dannie worked as a welder at Chrysler Motors in Perrysburg, Ohio, while they started their family in Toledo. In 1974, they moved to Goetzville, Michigan and started a Christmas tree farm while Dannie worked odd jobs and started his business “Dan’s Paint and Muffler Shop”, until 1984 when they moved to San Diego, California. Dannie and Charlotte returned to Michigan, settling in the Pickford area for the past twenty years. During that time, Dannie began his welding business, ASAP Welding, which he retired from in 2017. Dannie and Charlotte decided to settle down on Sugar Island in 2020.

Dannie was part of the Bender-Johnston AMVETS in Raber, Michigan at one time and was an avid supporter of United Service Organizations.

Dannie enjoyed playing scrabble, jigsaw puzzles, word searches, carpentry, woodworking, and hunting. He loved talking with people and spending time with family and friends. He especially loved to dance with his beloved wife Charlotte and was always game for a new adventure especially if it meant riding his Can-Am Spyder. Dannie was also a fifteen-year survivor of lung cancer and had survived several other life-threatening medical conditions.

Dannie is survived by his wife of 61 years, Charlotte Hendrickson; daughter, Holly (Don) Traynor; son, Lee (Lorinda) Hendrickson; foster children, Karl (Angela) Henrichsen and Sherry (Bruce) Wellman; grandchildren, Ashley (Eric) Carins, Lindsey (Thomas) Lehre, Alex Traynor, Ian Traynor, Dustin Carl, Saylor (Cas) Hendrickson, Chandler (Autumn) Hendrickson; great-grandchildren, Ellie, Riley, Thomas Jr., Nova, Kyro; brother, Harold (Tammy) Hendrickson Jr. and many nieces and nephews.

Dannie is preceded in death by his parents, Harold Hendrickson and Dortha Garner; stepmother, Rosamond Hendrickson; siblings, Bonnie Archar, Ralph Hendrickson, Juanita Drury, and Charles Archar.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, at Family Life Funeral Homes, 4951 S. M-129, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The funeral Service will follow at 1:00 PM.

The burial will be at Bethel Cemetery, in Pickford, Michigan following the service. There will be a luncheon at the Family Life Funeral Home after the burial.
