Obituary For David Lofdahl
David Lofdahl, age 71, of Cedarville, Michigan, died on April 5, 2025, at McLaren Northern Michigan Hospital in Petoskey, Michigan. He was born on September 6, 1953, in Detroit, Michigan, during the brief period when his parents Lawrence and Patricia Lofdahl had moved “downstate”, but he was a Yooper through and through.
Dave grew up in Cedarville, in a large home near the M-134 and M-129 intersection alongside his brothers, Mike and Dana, and his sister, Shelly. He was an outstanding athlete during his high school years at Cedarville High School, where he excelled in football, track, baseball, and his true passion—basketball. As a senior, he was named Cedarville High School’s Player of the Year in basketball, a testament to his hard work and dedication to the sport. In 1975, Dave married Vicki Schreur, and together they had three children: Grant, Aris, and Whitney. The family moved to Holland, Michigan, where Dave worked at Hart and Cooley, Inc. for many years and was an active member of his union. After his divorce, Dave moved back to Cedarville in the late 1990s, where he worked as a builder alongside his father Lawrence and his brother Dana. Dave was also employed at several local golf courses, starting with Les Cheneaux Golf Links during his youth.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Dave was a passionate supporter of the Cedarville Trojans, Michigan Wolverines, Michigan State Spartans, Detroit Pistons, Tigers, Red Wings, and most notably, the Detroit Lions. His love for sports extended to his own athletic pursuits, including playing golf and participating in competitive rec basketball leagues in his younger days. In 2025, Dave made a profound commitment to his faith when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior.
Dave is survived by his son, Grant Lofdahl; daughters, Aris (Dan) VanDerleest and Whitney (Chris) Sell; grandchildren, Jonah VanDerleest, Waylon VanDerleest, Hadleigh Sell, Brecken Sell and Porter Sell; brother, Michael (Margaret Huskey) Lofdahl; sister, Michelle (Mike) Otto; and sister-in-law, Kim Lofdahl.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Pat; and brother, Dana Lofdahl.
Per David’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place later this summer.
