Obituaries

David Richard Church, age 80, of DeTour Village, Michigan, died on February 15, 2025. He was born on June 11, 1944, in Flint, Michigan, to Forrest and Ada (Brooks) Church.

David grew up in Cedarville, Michigan, and graduated from Cedarville High School. He worked for his parents’ meat market and took boats across to the islands. He moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, for thirty years and returned to the Upper Peninsula when he retired in 1993. He met Kathy Garrow in 1995 while snowmobiling and they married on November 2, 1999. They settled in DeTour Village and David began over the road trucking in 2005 and retired after eleven years in 2016. After his second retirement he worked part time at Ace Hardware in Cedarville.

David was a member of the Cedarville Snowmobile Club.

David loved hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and hiking in the woods. He also enjoyed carpentry, electrical, plumbing, heating, and auto mechanic work. He was a jack of all trades and was a very organized man that new where everything was!

David is survived by his wife, Katherine Church; daughter, Amy Church of DeTour; stepson, Wayne (Jenny) Riedy of Berkley, Michigan; grandchildren, Sidney Micholsen, Savanna Micholsen, Joshua Riedy, Nicholas Riedy, and Olivia Riedy; brothers, Rick (Ruth) Church of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Randy (Gail) Church of Illinois; and sister-in-law, Theresa Pratt of Rochester Hills, Michigan.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Ada; sister, Diane Boarch; and brother-in-law, Kevin Pratt.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Family Life Funeral Homes, 24549 S. M-129 Pickford, MI 49774 from 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM. The Military Service will follow immediately at 3:30 PM.
