Obituaries

Doris Ellen (Bourque) Martin, age 90, died March 26, 2025, at MyMichigan Health Center in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. She was born on March 17, 1935, to Hildiage Joseph and Elsie Marie (Rajakorpi) Bourque in Sault Ste. Marie.

Doris grew up in Sault Ste. Marie and graduated from Sault High School in 1956. In the fall of 1959, she attended Northwestern Michigan College for LPN studies. In 1973, she took night classes to brush up on accounting, general business and even first aid.

Doris was an avid reader and enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles. She enjoyed dancing to blue grass music and Grand Ole Opry music. Doris loved music and really enjoyed listening to the fiddle play. She also enjoyed playing the slots at the casino and lottery scratch cards.

Doris belonged to many different clubs, she was a member of the Unit #0003 American Legion, VFW Auxiliary #3676 and she belonged to the Chippewa Senior Citizen Club for 17 years along with the Lock City Toastmasters Club and the Handicap League. She attended Triad and People to People meetings. She thoroughly enjoyed all of these events.

Doris was a proud Roman Catholic and attended St. Mary’s Church until her osteo arthritis and asthma made it too difficult.

Doris is survived by her children, Roseann (Carl) Farnsworth, Daniel Thomas Martin and James Donald Martin; grandchildren, Patricia T. (David) Little, Carl L Farnsworth II, Melissa, Thomas Martin, Ashley Martin, Bob Cartwright, Amber Martin, and Amanda Miller; great-grandchildren, Ryan Farnsworth (Julia) and Amelia Rose Little; brothers, H. James (Ann) Bourque and Thomas Pierre (Jan) Bourque.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Hildiage and Elsie; brother, Robert Lucien Bourque; stillborn daughter, Denise Marie Martin; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A Graveside burial will be held at Donaldson Cemetery in the Spring of 2025.
