Obituary For Drake Joseph DePaul

Drake Joseph DePaul, age 14, of Drummond Island, Michigan, passed away far too soon on July 30, 2024, after a boating accident. He was born on April 6, 2010, to Joseph and Kara (Cloudman) DePaul. Drake's vibrant spirit, quick wit, and thoughtfulness left an indelible mark on all who knew him.

Drake attended DeTour Area Schools and played basketball, golf, baseball, and football for the DeTour/Cedarville Islanders. He was a member of his middle school student council, the downhill ski club, and competed in Quiz Bowl. Drake was very competitive and enjoyed hunting, swimming (first one in, last one out), boating, tubing, skiing, golfing, playing games, reading, drawing, driving anything, listening to music, and playing video games late into the night with faraway friends. He loved "good quality" chocolate, ice cream any chance that he got, hanging out with his friends and family, and executing a perfectly planned prank.

In school, Drake was a bright and curious student, known for his inquisitive mind and eagerness to help others. His teachers and classmates (usually) appreciated his banter and insightful debates. They admired his positive attitude and genuine interest in making the world a better place.

Drake was a beloved son, grandson, brother, and friend. His infectious laughter and kind heart endeared him to everyone he met, and his beautiful smile was contagious. He was an adventurous soul, always eager to explore and learn new things, often with independent stubbornness as a driving force. Drake's love for life and family was evident in his elaborate party planning, thoughtful gift giving, deep loyalty, and fierce protectiveness. He prioritized helping his family to feel better if they were feeling down or came to their aid in accomplishing frustrating tasks. His homemade chocolate drizzle desserts, handmade cards, heartfelt apologies or comforting words and presence were the essence of who he was. He was always selflessly there to support his loved ones.

He is cherished by everyone who met him, and he touched countless hearts. He will be missed by his sisters' friends as much as his own, and he was so thankful for his Cedarville family and friends who made him feel like one of their own.

Drake is survived by his parents; sisters, Bella and Sophia; family dog, Teddy; grandparents, Gary and Barb Cloudman and Judi Bailey Martin; treasured aunts, uncles, and cousins; beloved friends and teammates from Cedarville, DeTour, and Drummond Island; and the valued Drummond Island Community.

Drake was preceded in death by his grandfather, Charles DePaul; and step-grandfather, Roy Martin.

Drake's life, though brief, was filled with love, laughter, and joy. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Drake's family and friends will forever cherish the memories of his lively and joyful spirit and the love he gave so freely.

A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, August 5, 2024, at 12:00 PM, with a gathering starting at 11:00 AM, at the Drummond Island Yacht Haven in the Big Dock Building, 33185 S. Water Street, Drummond Island, MI.

In lieu of flowers, Drake’s family has set up an account at the Detour Drummond Community Credit Union that will be used to establish a scholarship fund in his memory to honor his generous heart and love for helping others.
