Obituaries

Herbert Brown, age 80, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on April 27, 2024, at the Hospice of the Eastern Upper Peninsula in Sault Ste. Marie. He was born on November 22, 1943, in Eufaula, Alabama, to Earl V. and Dovie M. (Connor) Brown.

Herb grew up in Ohio. He met Verna Parr, and they married in 1964. Herb served in the United States Coast Guard for twenty-one years and served many years at the Sault Ste. Marie base. One year in Viet Nam and served aboard the United States Coast Guard Cutter Duane in Portland, Maine traveling overseas to many countries. He oversaw search and rescue unit in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, United States Coast Guard Canal Station.

Herb was a member of American Legion and life member of VFW.

Herb is survived by his wife, Verna Brown; sons, David Brown of Sault Ste. Marie, Raymond Brown of Sault Ste. Marie, and Herbert (Colleen) Brown of Weaver, Alabama; grandchildren, Denise (Will) Clausing, Jacqueline (Alex) Brown, Haley (Sam) Brown, Megan (Teddy) Pedroza, Parker Smith, Preston Smith; great-grandchildren, Jack Smith and Hadlee Clausing.

Herb is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Dovie Brown; brothers-in-law, Raymond Parr and Kenneth Parr.

Services will not be held per Herb’s wishes.
