Irma Elaine (Wommer) “Elaine” Gady, age 100, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, died on June 12, 2024, in Freedom, Wisconsin. Elaine was born on April 9, 1924, in Ishpeming, to George and Margaret (Wolz) Wommer.

Elaine grew up in Ishpeming and graduated from Ishpeming High School. After graduation, she attended Lake Superior State University (LSSU) to obtain her associates degree for her LPN. While attending LSSU, she met Earl Gady, and they married on May 5, 1951. Elaine worked at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, for thirty-five years in the elderly care unit.

Elaine was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sault Ste. Marie.

Elaine enjoyed baking, berry picking, and sewing, but above all, she loved spending time with her family. Her love for her children and grandchildren was like no other, and as a family they loved camping, picnicking, and other family activities together.

Elaine is survived by children, Richard (Andrea) Gady, Ralph (Deb) Gady, Bonnie Laney, Gail Gady, and Ron (Kelly) Gady; twelve grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren.

Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; parents, George and Margaret; siblings, George (Carol) Wommer, Marvin (Bertha) Wommer, Burton (Mary) Wommer, Lauris (Donald) Chevrette, Clarice (Matt) Herrala, and Don Wommer; in-laws, William (Gertrude) Gady, Ruth (Red) Lihou, Shirley (Eddie) Darr, Wayne (Dee) Gady, and Shirley (Roy) Gady.

The family would like to give thanks to the staff of McKinley Manor of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, Burcham Hills Assisted Living, East Lansing, Michigan, Country Villa Assisted Living, Freedom Wisconsin, and Moments Hospice for their special care of Elaine.

A Visitation will be held on June 24, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the Immanuel EV Lutheran Church, 615 Washington Way, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will follow the service at the church.

Elaine’s final resting place will be Oaklawn Chapel Gardens, Bruce Township, Michigan.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions in Elaine’s memory can be made to Little Lambs Early Childhood Center, at Immanuel Lutheran EV Church, 615 Washington Way, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783.
