James E. Schopp (Nug), 76, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan passed away July 21, 2024 at his home surrounded by family.

Jim was born August 14, 1947, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to Byron and Hazel (Bailey) Schopp of DeTour Village, Michigan. He graduated from DeTour High School in 1965 then enlisted in the US Army. After his enlistment, he attended Lake Superior State College to study drafting.

Jim married his wife of 53 years, Toni Stevens, on October 3, 1970. They made their home in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan where they raised their family.

Jim began his 35-year career with Edison Sault Electric Company as a draftsman; retiring in 2005 as a Right-of-Way and Safety Supervisor.

In retirement, Jim focused his particular nature on his impressive coin and stamp collections as well as his many woodworking projects. He was a true do-it-yourself person with strong opinions on quality and how to get the best results. He was also well-liked and always welcomed time with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Toni; son, Craig Schopp (Tari Miller), of Sault Ste Marie; daughter, Bridget (Dane) Kuusinen, of DeTour Village; son, Jason (Robyn) Schopp, of West Olive; grandson, Jacob Schopp (Megan Pohlman), of Holt; and brothers, Byron Schopp, of Holt, and David (JoAnn) Schopp, of Gaylord; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey; sister, Mary Ann Lee; sister-in-law, Susan Schopp; sister-in-law, Lana Stevens; and in-laws, Arne & Wanda Stevens.

A private graveside service will be held on Friday, July 26, 2024, at Maple Grove Cemetery in DeTour Township, Michigan.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
