Janice Edith (Snyder) Barrett, age 97, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, passed away on March 2, 2024, at the Ball Hospice House in Sault Ste. Marie, with her children by her side as her health slowly deteriorated following a stroke nearly three years ago. She was born January 7, 1927, in Corry, Pennsylvania, to Fred W. and Ruth (Peterson) Snyder.

Janice was a housewife while her husband of 69 years, CW04 Chester V. Barrett, served in the United States Navy during WWII, and two other wars while serving for over thirty years in the United States Coast Guard, where he retired from the Sault Ste. Marie Station.

Janice was a member of the Church of Christ, Eastern Star – Queen of the North #82, VFW Auxiliary #3676, American Legion Auxiliary, and the War Memorial Auxiliary.

Janice is survived by her daughter, Deanna (Jack) Chamberlain of Lansing, Michigan; son, James “Jim” Barrett of Sault Ste. Marie; grandsons, Lance, and Michael Barrett; and dear friend, Debra Howie.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Chester; and parents, Fred, and Ruth.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to Ball Hospice House of the EUP, 308 W. 12th Ave, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan 49783.

Per Janice’s wishes, no public services will be held.
