Obituary For Jeanie Hartwig-Place
Jeanie “Bean” Hartwig-Place, age 55, unexpectedly passed away at home on October 19, 2023 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.
Jeanie was born in Sault Ste. Marie on June 15, 1968 and was a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. She married Sam “Randy” Place of Thessalon First Nation.
Jeanie enjoyed working as a home health care worker, but her greatest pride was spending time with her grandchildren, whom she loved very much. From an early age, she was known for bringing home stray animals. Her rescue efforts turned into having lifelong fur babies like Sammy, Flash, Allie, Oopsie, and Harley. She really enjoyed cooking - we’ll miss her famous spinach dip! She liked to camp, swim and kayak.
Jeanie was the fun friend telling jokes, teasing, and being silly, often making fun of herself. She could always make you laugh.
Jeanie is preceded in death by her husband; mother, Sharon Hartwig-Jones (née Cody); brother, Paul Hartwig Jr.; and brother-in-law, Jon Johanson.
Jeanie is survived by her loving partner, Warren McCrorie; daughter, Jennifer Bouschor (Kyle Gravelle); sister, Margie Hartwig-Johanson; grandchildren, Dyllon Erickson, Deacon Erickson, and Brody Gravelle; nephew, Kalvin Hartwig; and special friends, Delia LaVictor and Candace Hughes.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, October 29, 2023, from 10 am to 4 pm, with a potluck lunch at 12:30 at the Sault Tribe Niigaanigiizhik Ceremonial Building.
We urge anyone, whether it be a childhood friend, neighbor, or someone who simply wants to show support to her family, to please come eat, visit and share the love and laughter she brought into our lives.
In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to help Jennifer cover funeral expenses, and/or to the Chippewa County Animal Control Shelter.
Jeanie will be laid to rest summer 2024 on Mission Hill alongside her husband.
