Obituary For Joyce Avis Sauro

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear wife and mother, Joyce Sauro, after a long courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Joyce was born in 1936, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, she grew up on the family farm in Brimley, surrounded by her large loving family. During her teen years, she moved to the Sault, where she met and married her husband, Tom, and started a family. They were married for sixty-five years. She loved to bake, sew, make quilts, dolls, and bears. If you received a quilt or a doll, you were pretty special. She put so much love into everything she did. A big Detroit Red Wings fan and loved the Golden Girls. But family was the most important thing to her. She always made sure we had what we needed, even if it meant she had to go without herself.

Survivors include her husband, Tom, daughter, Debbie (Roger), son, Tony, her honorary daughter, Kim Dunn, her granddaughter, Ashleigh, and great grandchildren, Brennah and James LaFord III, also never seen but always in our hearts, Jamie and Paige, sisters, Alma Quinn and Ellen Lehre, many nieces and nephews and their families. She loved and cared about them as she did her own.

Passing on before were her parents, Hugh and Thelma MacLean, brothers, Sonny and Wally MacLean, sisters, Margaret LaLonde, Bonnie Vert, Wilma Vertand, and grandson, James G. LaFord, Jr.

Our mother always taught us that if you want something, you have to work for it. She set that example by always working hard at everything she did. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

A very special thank you to everyone on the second floor of the hospital. Especially Dr. Rechner, Dr. Chander, nurses, nurse aides, food services, for all the comfort carts for the family, you are greatly appreciated.

If you would like to pay tribute to her, do something nice for someone else in her memory.

At her request, no services will be held.

“There is no other love like a mothers love for her child.”
